We brought the waterproof black collar to wear when our boy goes on muddy woods walks so it can be cleaned more easily & he has a change. The handle is great - only down side is wish it was made in 4cm width as thats better for our dog & we had to get 2cm un this one and 4cm in his orange collar that matches his lead.

This is the smaller collar which I thought would be fine for my cocker spaniel, Gus, however, it’s a bit big for his scrawny neck. This just means we have to make it smaller which then covers the tail end of the collar handle, but it’s too nice to send back, and they don’t do a smaller one in this material.

I love the biothane range, got two long line leads, my dog is a awkward size for the harness, biothane is heavy thick heavy duty, ordered this collar because I didn't want the bigger width. I have a english bull terrier so I didn't want her to look more aggressive with the stigma they already have. The handle comes in handy, however it is pointless with the coloured hardware as soon as you start using it, it rubs off. The collar would benefit from more metal stay loops to hold the excess together as it bubbles outwards with the nature of the thick material. Id love bully billows to make a biothane slip collar

What is the best dog collar?

The best dog collar really depends on the breed, size and activity level of your dog. Slip-on collars are great to assist training your dog that pulls, whereas a Combat collar is perfect for everyday use and comes in various thicknesses, from 2.5cm for smaller breeds to 5cm for XL breeds. How tight should a dog collar be?

Similar to harnesses, a dog collar should be snug but not too tight. We’d recommend being able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck - if you can fit more than two fingers, the collar may be too loose and could slip off. If you can’t fit two fingers, it might be too tight for your dog causing discomfort and potentially breathing difficulties.

Do dogs have to wear collars?

It’s a legal requirement for dogs to wear collars with ID tags when in public. The tag needs to display your name and address to help reunite you and your dog if they ever get lost. We know that a lot of owners prefer using harnesses, but a collar and ID tag are essential to comply with UK law when you’re out in public, so make sure you’ve got both on if needs be.

How do you measure a dog collar?

To measure a dog collar, wrap a flexible measuring tape around the base (the lower sections) of your dog’s neck whilst leaving enough room to fit two fingers in between. A lot of collars are adjustable, which is ideal for a puppy as you can simply extend the collar as they grow into it.
