Fun Fact:

Did you know Rottweilers are one of the oldest herding breeds in the world, descended from the drover dogs of Ancient Rome? They got their modern name from Rottweil in Germany, where they were used to herd livestock and pull butchers' carts. Your Rottie has been working hard for humans for over 2,000 years. The least we can do is get them decent gear.

FAQs

What size harness does a Rottweiler need?

Most adult Rottweilers need an XL. Males especially can be very substantial - always measure chest girth and neck circumference carefully and check our size calculator. A well-fitted harness is essential for a breed this strong.

Is my Rottweiler likely to pull on the lead?

They can be - particularly during that adolescent phase between 8 and 18 months. A front-clip harness combined with consistent training is the most effective approach. Getting the right gear early makes that phase significantly more manageable.

Is a harness or collar better for a Rottweiler?

Both have their place. A harness is better for walks - it gives better control and is safer for a powerful breed. A strong collar with solid hardware is still important for ID tags and as a backup connection point.

How do I manage a reactive Rottweiler on walks?

A front-clip harness, a padded-handle lead with a traffic handle, and structured training are your core toolkit. The adolescent phase is genuinely hard with this breed - but it does pass, and the dog on the other side of it is worth every difficult walk.

Are Rottweilers good family dogs?

Absolutely - when well socialised and properly trained, your Rottweiler will be one of the most loyal, affectionate dogs you'll ever own. The reputation rarely matches the reality. The right gear from day one makes building that relationship significantly easier.
