The chest measurement of your dog, or the girth, is the first measurement you’ll need to take. This can be taken by placing the measuring tape around the widest part of your dog’s torso, usually just behind the front legs.

The next measurement should be taken around the lower part of your dog’s neck, simply measure the widest part at the base of the neck as this is where the harness is going to sit. This size chart is based on min-max measurements.

    Having a Labrador and using the Bully Billows traditional harness, Our Dog pulled like crazy on walks and it wasn't enjoyable at all. To remedy the pulling we opted for the Hurricane harness and what a difference it has made, no more pulling and walks are much more enjoyable for all . As an added bonus, the Hurricane is lighter and not as rigid as the original BB harness we had so even Our Dog is happier on walks. Thoroughly recommend for anyone who walks a strong puller.

    Really good quality and definitely comfortable for my dog to wear, and it looks great, I love the colour. My only criticism is I wish the handle was bigger/chunkier (more like the handle on the combat collar). On this harness, when she's running around excitedly it's hard to grab hold of the handle and as its quite thin when I did grab hold and she tried to run off, it got twisted around my fingers. Overall very good though

    How to put on a dog harness

    Start by unbuckling the harness and having your dog sit or stand still next to you. Slip the harness over their head and pull the straps underneath their tummy. Or, if you have a step-in harness, place it on the floor and help your dog place their feet correctly, before pulling it up over their back. Fasten it up securely, making sure it’s not too tight or too loose, and adjust accordingly.

    What is the best dog harness?

    The best dog harness really depends on the breed, size, and activity level of your dog. The comfortable Hurricane Harness features a useful handle and is super lightweight, while the Premium Harness is a great all-rounder for any dog. The traditional slip-on harnesses offer quick and easy fitting, while step-in harnesses might be better for dogs that dislike harnesses going over their head.     How to measure a harness for a dog

    To measure your dog for a harness, grab a measuring tape and wrap it around the widest part of their ribcage, then measure their neck at the base (where the collar sits and not in the middle of the neck). Make sure that the measurements aren’t too tight, but are secure enough that the harness won’t slip off if your dog pulls. 

    If you have the harness already, try it on your dog and make sure you can fit two fingers between the harness and their body. Finally, monitor your dog’s behaviour - if they’re showing signs of discomfort or walking awkwardly, it may need adjusting more to suit your dog.

    To ensure you’re using your dog harness correctly, you need to make sure it’s properly fitted. This means that it’s tight enough to prevent the harness moving, but loose enough to allow your pooch to move comfortably.
