How to Housetrain Your Puppy?

Once you bring a puppy to your place, housetraining them can be one of the most challenging things you have to do. However, with consistent training and positive reinforcement, you can train your puppy with ease and in no time.

Here are our two cents to make your puppy happy and obedient.

Quick and easy tips for housetraining your puppy

Develop a routine

The key to puppy house training is developing a routine. The first thing you should do when you are housetraining a puppy is to set a fixed schedule for peeing and pooping.

Before you set this schedule, you need to observe when your puppy normally pees or poops.

Try to feed your puppy at about the same time every day and take him out shortly after eating. Knowing this thing will help you gauge the right time to let him out of the house to do his thing.

Once you create a schedule for his peeing and pooping, make sure to stick to it. If you feed your pup on the schedule, he will be eliminated on a schedule too.

Let your pup know it’s not to go potty in the house

You need to make your puppy realise that it is not good to eliminate in the house. If you catch him in the act, you should calmly take your pup right away.

Keep their digestive system regular

Try to give a simple and consistent diet to your puppy. This means you should prefer giving your little canine the same food day every day. Avoid giving your pup the people food and even table scraps, even if it’s only once and a while. This is because it could lead to many stomach problems and thus, unwanted accidents.

Never give your pup food when it is not time to eat as this will result in inconsistency in his training. Having a fixed schedule for the meals makes the training so much easier for you. Thus, you need to stick to the original schedule for feeding time.

Do not scold your little mate

Try not to scold your puppy unless you catch him in the act. When you scold him after the fact, your pup won’t know what you are mad about and will think whatever he’s doing at that moment has made you upset.

Appreciate your pup love

When your dog does something right in front of you, praise him and play. This makes your pup understand whatever he has done is right and will continue to do so.

When your puppy is done, appreciating him will reinforce his behaviour. Praising your dog is the way of saying that your puppy has done a good job and you are happy about it.

In comparison to other pets, housetraining your puppy requires more perseverance and oversight. If avoided, your dog will revert to making constant mistakes even weeks after initial training.

It requires at least 7 weeks of consistent housetraining for your puppy to not revert to bad behaviour.

Being a puppy owner, you do not need to struggle to housetrain your puppy anymore, simply follow the above-stated tips!
